How to Grow Runner Bean Scarlet Emperor (Organic):
Sowing Time: April to June (in/out)
Sowing Suggestion:
For the earliest crops sow in pots under cover in April, May or June. Alternatively sow Scarlet Emperor (Organic) outdoors from April onwards. I would put the canes in place first, entering the ground about 6ins (15cm) apart, then sow the runner beans two beans to each cane.
Growing Runner Bean Scarlet Emperor (Organic):
Once seedlings are at least 2ins (5cm) tall, thin to one per cane. If you're starting them indoors in pots, then plant out in June or July. When the runner bean plants are much bigger, tie the plants to the cane.
Harvesting Time: July onwards
Helpful Hint: Runner bean plants reach 6-7ft (1.8-2.1m) in height, but if you stop the plant at the top of a 6ft cane it will put more energy into growing pods & less energy into growing taller!
Runner Bean Scarlet Emperor (Organic)'s Nutritional Information:
Runner Bean Scarlet Emperor (Organic) beans contain good quantities of vitamin C (anti-ageing, wound healing, decreasing blood cholesterol and prevention of infections. Runner Beans also assist the body in absorbing iron), folate and iron together with fibre.
Cooking Suggestion:
Cut the runner beans (in pods) thinly and steam for just five minutes (or boil for three) as vitamins are easily lost. A great way to serve runner beans is in a 'Garlic Runner Beans' recipe with broad beans, tomatoes, onions, parsley and chives.
Average Runner Bean Scarlet Emperor (Organic) Beans per packet: Approx. 15 Seeds
