How to Grow Runner Bean Hestia:
Sowing Time: April (inside), May to June (outside)
Sowing Suggestion:
For the earliest crops sow in pots under cover in April. Alternatively sow Hestia outdoors from April onwards. I would sow the beans in stations about 6ins (15cm) apart, two runner beans to a station. There's no need for canes with Hestia Runner Beans, unless you're in a very windy location.
Growing Runner Bean Hestia:
Once seedlings are at least 2ins (5cm) tall, thin to one per station.
Harvesting Time: July onwards
Helpful Hint: Pick the runner beans regularly a little on the young side to ensure top quality and prolonged cropping.
Runner Bean Hestia's Nutritional Information:
Runner Bean Hestia beans contain good quantities of vitamin C (anti-ageing, wound healing, decreasing blood cholesterol and prevention of infections. Runner Beans also assist the body in absorbing iron), folate and iron together with fibre.
Cooking Suggestion:
Cut the runner beans (in pods) thinly and steam for just five minutes (or boil for three) as vitamins are easily lost. A great way to serve runner beans is in a 'Garlic Runner Beans' recipe with broad beans, tomatoes, onions, parsley and chives.
Average Runner Bean Hestia Beans per packet: Approx. 15 Seeds
